"Give Your Spirit a Voice"

Cedar Spirit Native American flutes are handcrafted with care and loving attention, in the tradition of the Plains Indian "Love Flutes", completed with one-of-a-kind hand-carved three-dimensional totems completed to your specifications.

we create love flutes with custom carved totemsThese double-chambered flutes were traditionally played by the Plains Indians. The flute was used by men to court the women they loved, and for this reason it has also been given the beautiful name of the "Love Flute". These flutes are now played and appreciated by both men and women. Read more about the history of Love Flutes here.

native american flutes by cedar spiritWhether you are a beginner or a practiced flute player, you can play a Native American flute easily. Novices will find that within a few minutes they are producing beautiful music. Why? Because the Native American flute has no "embouchure" like a metal flute, and no reed like a woodwind instrument. So with a gentle, straight blow, you can get a beautiful tone, right away.

What makes Cedar Spirit Native American flutes unique?

  • All our totems are hand-carved and are fully 3-dimensional (beware: most Native American flutes on the market today have totems that have been mass-produced on a bandsaw, making them a simple silouette of your totem.)
  • All our Native American flutes are tuned to key on a chromatic tuner - many people bring me flutes by other makers that have simply dreadful tone and I have to retune them. For details of how our flutes are tuned, see
    How our flutes are made
    .
  • All our Native American flutes are carved from ancient fire-killed cedar that have died naturally - more about the Trees that give life to our flutes
  • All our totems are consciously created - From the very beginning of Cedar Spirit Flutes I noticed a dramatic difference in the ease and flow of my carving when I asked the Spirit of the animal or being I was carving to come into the wood.
Since then I have become very aware that each and every living thing has a spirit, an angel, an energy - call it what you will. When I take the time to tune in to that energy the carving flows so easily it is amazing. I like to think of this as carving in four dimensions because there is definitely spirit in each of these pieces; I consciously and lovingly invite it in. You will feel - and hear - the difference that the Cedar Spirit makes.
  • No two totems are alike - each is an individual work of consciously created art. Your totem will be unique to you, and made especially to your specific requests - at NO extra cost.
  • Totems can be custom carved to your own personal totem animal or spirit - Your own personal objects, such as a small crystal, can be incorporated in your totem design.
    (See "Choose a Totem")
  • All our Native American flutes are hand-finished with organic linseed oil and beeswax.
Custom carved totems are INCLUDED in flute prices.

These flutes have been crafted with love and care in the heart of the Kootenay Mountains of south-eastern British Columbia, Canada.
