Minor Scale
Here is how to play the Native American style flute with the Minor scale. This is the simplest progression, and even a novice can produce beautiful music from the start just by following these patterns. Blow softly for a low tone, and harder for the second octave.

Start with the minor scale. For more advanced players or for someone ready for the next level, try the major scale below. Its a bit trickier, containing as it does the fingering of a half-hole.


Major Scale

Here is how to play the Native American style flute with the Major scale.
Note that in the second note of the progression, the hole is half-open. Just raise your first finger slightly.

Tip: Try rolling your tongue while playing. It produces a lovely trill!

Have you always wanted to learn how to play the Native American style flute? It really is very easy, and we've made it even easier for you. There are twelve lessons and each lesson comes with a printable pdf music score and finger chart. The lessons are accompanied by a drum beat at 60 beats per minute to help you learn good meter or timing.

The course moves along slowly grounding you in the basics. Like how to setup the totem and how to hold your flute. How to breathe and how to get all the varied sounds that a flute can make.

We will then show you the fingerings of a minor scale. The following lessons give you the chance to practice the various techniques with me. This is where we sneak in teaching you melodies that you will later play in songs.

In the last two lessons we show you how songs are put together from the melodies. The very last lesson is only the drum beat so you can practice and play by yourself.
